There are credible and disturbing reports that a Mount Vernon School District teacher engaged in sexual acts with multiple students. Yet the district has chosen silence over student safety. There is no notice on the district’s website, no formal communication to parents, and no transparency about who the teacher is, where the teacher works, or whether the teacher still has access to children.
Parents report they were never warned. This is not negligence, it is a betrayal of public trust.Even more alarming are indications that law enforcement may not have been notified. If true, this represents a shocking failure to follow mandatory reporting laws and raises questions about whether the district actively concealed criminal conduct to protect itself rather than its students. The district’s lack of transparency extends to IT Department employee Oscar Davis, who was caught on video, in a school district building, touching a BOCES employee and who has faced multiple allegations involving inappropriate contact with minors.
The public has a right to know: Is Mr. Davis still employed? Was he disciplined or terminated? Was law enforcement notified? Is the district shielding an employee accused of predatory behavior? Three Board Members reportedly have close personal ties to Dwyane Murray, a coach who was indicted for sexual misconduct involving a minor. Many in the community believe these Board Members may have been aware of his predatory behavior and deliberately failed to report it. The Mount Vernon School District must immediately stop hiding behind silence and legal language. It must disclose all known allegations of sexual misconduct, identify affected schools and employees, confirm law enforcement involvement, and explain what steps are being taken to ensure student safety. The district exists to protect children, not predators. Continued secrecy only reinforces the perception that the district is complicit in protecting sexual abusers at the expense of the students it is sworn to protect. |
